  • Do governments invade our privacu too much?

Just been reading that the US government has ordered access to 10m phone users in the US.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-22793851

We all know about the CIA snooping on phone key words and emails. In the Uk you are caught on camera an average of 350 times a day.

Are we been snooped on too much or are these measures a necessary evil against 'terrorism'?

Does it all feel a bit 1984?

It's all very 1984, and I personally would rather not have it. But we live in an "instant" society where we want stuff done and dealt with pretty much straight away, so stuff like this will be common place.

Who hasn't said out loud, or at least to ourselves "How did they plan/get away with all of this without being discovered?" when we see terrorist atrocities or peado rings or whatever? Well, I guess that in itself should be justification. The problem is that there probably isn't yet the kind of tech which could passively filter comms and only flag up when certain words or actions raise concern, and we don't seem to be able to trust governments/police/national security agencies/private companies not to abuse the power that they would be wielding.

The CIA have been keyword filtering for years now, supposedly every email and phone call is screened by a super computer and if certain words are found the conversation flagged up to someone.

some words that flag up include:

The problem ya had there Mark is ya used snow instead of Ice and ya would have been on a winner!!

I think CCTV and satellite snooping in this day and age are a necessary evil. there are that many Bat Sh*t Crazies out there they need to be caught any which way poss.

However, the fact that spy satellites can see into ya livingroom or computers can monitor phone calls is very big brother and somewhat of an intrusion on privacy Me thinks?

The question is are there more batsh*t crazies nowadays or are there as many as there ever were but they get found out more often?

Anyway, I'm safe here wearing my tinfoil lined pith helmet. Nobody can see me. I'm invisible heheheheheheheeeeeee
