  • Aku.chan paints towards a better tomorrow!

Decided to use WAMPs rebirth as an excuse to make my first post (despite being a forum member for almost a decade ).

So, yeah, welcome to my painting thread.
I'm not a particularly good or fast painter, but hopefully there will be something for people to enjoy looking at!

The main focus of this year is to concentrate on my Games Workshop minis (I've got too much Warhammer Underworlds stuff!), so far I've managed to finish:-

Elodie of the Blade, Elven Blademistress.
Pretty happy with this one, except for her robe, that came out a bit flat.

    Balmonoth, sneaky Rat-man.
Also pretty happy with this one, but it highlights the long term problem I've had photographing metallics.

    Currently, I'm painting the Champion:-

He's at a very early stage.

So I don't get burnt out on Warhammer stuff, I'm also bouncing between various other ranges I collect, on that front I've recently finished:-

The Octoberfest Ayas from Kingdom Death, some of my best skin painting.

The Business Penguin, a very simple, mostly drybrushed mini from the Etherfields boardgame.

And currently on the table, I have another Kingdom Death mini, the Ram Pin-up:-

Again, he's at an early stage.

    So that's where I'm at.
I'm not actively seeking to improve my painting (I think I've pushed my skills as far as they'll go), but I welcome any comments or criticisms people have.

Ive been sat here for 10 years waiting to formaly welcome you to Wamp so welcome!

Some great pieces. Your a very neat painter (wish I was). A general critique from me is I think you need to push your contrast much more, especially the highlights. As for photography theres some great advice in the Photography section so well worth a browse but painting miniatures for real life and painting miniatures for photos are two seperate skills in my eyes

      Thanks for the welcome!

Yeah, I've been struggling with contrast forever, just cannot seem to find that sweet spot between horribly stark and non-existent, one day I'll get it.

And now for some gratuitous nudity:-

      Rams magnificent buttocks!
Eventually, another piece goes over the top of them, so I thought I'd take a picture for posterity.

            Thanks guys!

Didn't get as much painting done as I wanted to this week.

Almost got The Champion finished, just the axe to go.

Struggled a bit with Ram, all his straps are a bit thin for my poor old brush skills.

The champion might benefit from a purple wash on the gold bits.

I'll give it a try! They've already had brown and sepia washes, but I can't seem to get any shading on them. Having the same problem on Rams lantern, so I'll try it on him too.

I honestly don't know how you guys can paint 28mm minis so well. They're far too small for my elderly eyes and 1:35 scale is just about the smallest I can manage to do at a reasonable level of competence, even while wearing an optivisor.
Love those Oktoberfest Aya's; they're brilliant...

Krell (or the Wight King, since GW dropped his name for AoS) is coming along nicely, and the purple wash that Brett suggested should make that gold pop.

Purple wash is my go to. I use it on human flesh, orc flesh, gold, NMM steel....

Flashcad I struggle a bit these days though I very rarely paint anymore so I don't get troubled though I renege

Painting a 28mm scale bilbo baggins for golden demon that tested me!! Especially the pupils

                        Thanks!
I'm the opposite, I really struggle with large minis, I such a slow painter it just takes too long to make any noticeable progress and I lose interest.

                        Brambleten - Thanks!

Darklord - Tried the Purple Wash, looks really nifty in hand! Thanks for the tip!

Didn't paint too much this week but I got a bit done.

                        The Champion is finished:-

Happy with how he turned out, still a pain in the bum to photograph though.

                        Almost finished the Ram:-

But I forgot he still needed a base.

                        Also started some more stuff:-

                        Padean the Barbarian.

And the incredibly unstable Shrike Urchin.

                            Another week down!

Ram got his base and is all done:-

He's still a little rough in places, but overall I'm happy with him.

                            Padean is coming along nicely:-

                            But Shrike is taking longer:-

Keep finding more bits to paint!

                              Always this!

Haha, Looking great, as you say the Padean guy is shaping up nicely. I think Ram could get a bit more of wash on his face maybe? Faces are so key on models I think, so they sometimes benefit from a bit of extra work if you have the time that is..
