  • Ninja Goblin

Hi folks, nice to be here!
Here is my current project, it's a Fire Industries OOP Ninja Goblin, big and beautiful and sculpted by Sean Green.
It's probably the most fun project I've had, but I am pushing it a bit by hoping to have him finished for Feb 22nd, when our painting group is going to South Cheshire Militaire show in Crewe.

If you guys have any helpful advice I'm always happy to hear it - and will probably act on it, be warned!. If you want to be mean, just make it funny.

    Cheers
    B.

Hey, super cool! What scale is it? Is he going to be a classic Black Ninja, or a white or red ninja?

nice mini! and i like the paintjob so far. not much to say really, if i had to critique i would say the cut looks too pink for me, i would imagine it should have more red (if fresher) or purple if an older wound.
maybe bring the top highlight of the skin up in places? that may be the photos however as the skin is completley different in each pic!
i used to live in crewe for a while!

I'm not sure about the scale - maybe 3 times that of a standard Rackham ninja goblin?

I've just got a new camera, and I'm rubbish at pics, so I'm sorry the photos are off. :)

I was thinking about doing the robes in a brown red colour, again I wasn't thinking about him being stealthy or anything.
I do have some purple in this palette, so I'll look at adding that to the scar - thanks for the tip.
TBH, I wasn't thinking about realism for this piece, I just got a set of colours together I wanted to use cos I liked them together.

Do you think my unconventional palette is an issue? I haven't gone too far along to not be able to change, but I'm also quite fond of what I have.

Here are some of the key parts of my palette:

Looking good. The teeth look a bit too clean though even if they are cracked. Darker near the gum perhaps?

Looks good so far. I agree with Brett that the highlights on the skin could do with being just that bit lighter in places. The brown red would work but be careful you don't make it too close to the shading of the green. Using a little of the same colour in it will be good for colour harmony.

Interesting idea about saving your palette.

Cheers guys - hoping to do some more tonight.

As for the teeth, I've only started on them, but I will look at going darker towards the gums now you mention it :)

OK, did a little work on it tonight. Purple got added to the scars, and this looks loads better, thanks for that tip :)
Also added a little of the same to the top of the teeth.
Otherwise, just a shadow wash on the robes, basecoated the leather, and added the missing basecoat to the robes under the arms, and to the headscarf - which is now going to be the same colour as the robes. Feeling ok about it at the moment, although a little sad the yellows in the face seem to have got lost.

Up the yellows then but I'm Really likeing this. Love the colors and the scar does look tons better. You might want to do a few thin glazes on the trancition between the color around the scar and the green flesh. The blend is a bit harsh ATM. Looks good overall so far. Keep it up!
