Face is coming along well! Getting there... It is slightly over sized, but what the heck... it almost looks like a face!!!

Although not yet finished, I have been working (well, struggling!) with this sculpt behind the scenes. I don't doubt that I will have at this this one finished before Monster ships... Please, hold me to that!

In the mean time, I'm working on a fun sculpt, but don't want to reveal too much at this stage! I hope it'll be a quick one, but I'm still to encounter such a thing! I've made a start on the base, using a similar method to my Twilight Giraffe. Some time ago, I sculpted some crude stone faces from which I produced a number of InstantMold press moulds. I have been building up a small stock pile of green stuff stone faces for use in projects such as this one.

I started with a round lipped 30/40mm base and built up a shallow mound using old scraps of plasticard and miliput. I then added a layer of green stuff and started pressing the faces into place, matching the edges as closely as possible to minimise any gaps. Although there are only (currently) two face variants, the nature of the moulds (distortion etc) means there is plenty of variation. I try to mix it us as best as I can, occasionally cutting faces into fragments to add some interest.

Once all the faces were in place I added rolls and balls of green stuff to seal the gaps. I then smoothed the fresh putty over the adjacent faces and sculpted extensions of the faces to ensure a good neat fit. When I get some time I may sculpt some more stone faces and work on a system that would allow them to interlock.

The photos are pretty crummy but here is the base:

I plan to create a lantern using plastic tubing. I have started the character in question but wont be posting until it has more or less taken shape!

Yes, in fact it does (thank God)! ...and you might be onto something with the word "sit"... all will be revealed soon!

                Close, but no cigar!

                Well... you're not close!

It's nearly finished! It's a baby Gorm and sits on a 40mm base.

This piece will just be for fun and I'll be painting it at some point soon :-)

Latest progress on my baby Gorm (well, progress from 5 weeks ago!):

...and the latest on my survivor:

I started the head again as it had ballooned to ridiculous proportions. I'm also starting again with the lantern and will use a similar method to the Gorm's lantern. The shoulder pads (and shield) will also be in the style of the Beetle Knight armour kit recently unveiled on the Kickstarter.

                        Thanks!

Things are finally starting to take shape with my first survivor:

Since taking the photo I have started reshaping the shoulder pads (as I wasn't happy with how "flat" they looked).

The wait for Kingdom Death: Monster has been a hold and painful one, but at least I have time to work on my personalised survivors! I am however still working on the first one...

Many elements were borrowed from the Survivor Paul sculpt (rucksack, monsters head hood etc). The torso armour is from the Beetle Knight armour kit, the trousers from the Spider Silk kit and the leg armour inspired by the Twilight Knight.

There is still a fair amount of work remaining and he may look a tad ropey, but I am (reasonably) confident that once complete and painted he'll look alright.

looking good. I find the creases on the pants a little too linear and harsh, will you be softening them up a little?

It looks like the little GS man has done a little GS wee on the cork!

Thanks! The pants will remain as they are. Drapery is still a huge weak point of mine and there are many areas for improvement within this piece. I'll soon be sculpting another one soon, more in keeping with the Kingdom Death scale and aesthetic. I recently backed a sculpting tutorial Kickstarter and am counting down the days to its fulfillment!

As for the "wee", well, the realm of Kingdom Death is a scary world for such a little guy!
