  • "Ungluing" Models

I have some models (plastic) that I want to re-pose, does anyone know of an easy way to disassemble them?

if you have stuck them with plastic cement your only option is to cut them

Yep as he says sharp knife/scalpol and keep your fingers out of the way or anything else you don't want to cut open as that red stuff makes a mess

One option is to use Plastic Weld and a thin brush and gently work the liquid along the seam of the joint. The PW will reactivate the glue and, over time you should be able to carefully work the parts apart. You might have to clean the ex-joints once it's apart and hardened again (in just moments...) because the PW will melt the plastic...which is why I said use a THIN brush to minimise any exposure to the surrounding plastic.

Cut and reposition/sculpt would be the option with the best chance of success, I would think.

I find fairy power spray soaking good for ungluing.

It works great on superglue but I've never had any joy with liquid poly

Poly cement works by melting the two pieces of plastic which then end up melded together as one piece when the glue cures. Thus the only way to dissolve the bond is to dissolve the mini its self, powerspray won't help in this instance. What minis are you trying to break up? If it's a straight forward flat join then slicing it with a scalpel is your best bet.I've just pulled the arms off an Ogre Bull in order to give him a different weapon by gently levering them apart with a needle file. Sometimes that won't work though and the only way is to hack the offending part to bits it depends largely on how much glue was used in the first place.
