  • Darklands Painting Contest 2013

Do you guys need an excuse to paint fantastically sculpted miniatures? No I thought not! BUt heres one anyway!

Wamp has teamed up with Mierce Miniatures once again to present to you the Darklands Painting Contest 2013. We have some great prizes lined up for our worthy winners and we are even going to give you stuff just for entering!

Darklands is based around 30mm scale resin miniatures ranging from muscle bulging men to huge demonic monsters and everything in between. they are superb quality in both sculpting and casting terms and a firm favourite with some of the world's best painters.

The contest is open to all things Darklands and we have several categories for you to challenge for.

    Deadline:
Closing date for entries will be 23rd September 2013 6pm (British Time)

(supporters deadline will be 30th September 2013 6pm (British Time)

    Categories:

    Single figure:
Any single infantry or monstrous infantry (Human, Gabrax, Troll, Gorgonares, Dyndraig, Hydrar etc) miniature from the Darklands game system.

    Unit:
Any unit from the Darklands game system. Eg; Drune Ax, Dyndraig, Trolls, Tarvax, Melusine, etc etc)

    Monster:
Any single monster from the Darklands game system. Krull, Baintacc, Blood Maw etc.

    Prizes:
Everyone that enters will receive a 5 credit redeemable at Mierce Miniatures Online store.

    Category Winners:
    1st - 15 Credit
    2nd - 10 Credit
    3rd - 5 Credit

    Overall Winners:
    1st - 100 Credit
    2nd - 50 Credit
    3rd - 25 Credit

Prizes are cumulative so overall winner would receive 5 (entry prize) + 15 (Category Prize) + 100 (overall prize) = 120 in total

    Judging:
Winners will be decided by Mierce Miniatures
Judging will be carried out by Mierce Miniatures staff. We will be judging on not only technical ability but also adherence to the setting of Darklands (which is based in North-West Europe during the Dark Ages with a dark-fantasy twist). For example you can give your Tarvax machine guns if you want to, but would lose pts on theme.

You may use Darklands bases or indeed build your own plinth/diorama scenery type bases. Either is fine.

    Rules:

(please read them, its amazing how many dont!!)

    • You must be a Wamp Member to participate. Membership is free and you may register here.
    • You may enter as many times as you like but each entry may only submit one photograph so if you need more angles it MUST be a montage.

    • any additional photographs of that entry will be removed.
    • All entries must be new work. (New work is defined as any entry not previously displayed on-line in a completed state (You MAY enter pieces which have been shown as a Work In Progress (WIP)).

    • You may post pictures of WIP or final shots both here and elsewhere.
    • Submissions must be posted to the contest gallery You must make sure you select the correct contest option (Darklands 2013) in the contest select box either during upload (if using the basic uploader) or via edit pictures after upload
    • Only Darklands Miniatures are eligible

    • Prizes are awarded for your own personal use. They must not be sold on. Any winner found to be doing so will immediately forfeit any further prize due and will be banned from future Wamp contests. (This rule is in place to protect Mierce Miniatures own sales)
    • You may only enter your own original work. Not a miniature you have had or painted on commission.
    • Miniatures may be converted, but must be inherently recognisable as an original Darklands miniature.

You can find the full range of Darklands miniatures here:

If you have never painted one of these it's well worth picking one up, they really are lovely sculpts and the casting is top notch.

    Cheers

Also says judges will be mierce miniatures staff, then later says judging is done by public poll :P

Other than that, sounds good. Off to see if any mini's take my fancy to buy and paint for it ;D

This is excellent. I did not back the Kickstarter due to the issues with Mierce/previous ownership. To be honest, since then I have regretted it as the minis are lovely. Also, I am a Stephan Simone fan and there's a number of sculpts I've been eyeing up!

Timing is impeccable. I just received my first Kickstarter minis in the mail yesterday. Beautiful sculpts! I'm jazzed. Now, yes, I do have an excuse to paint them sooner rather than later.

A question regarding catagories. Can I enter a unit and enter models from that unit into single figure catagory also?

                      So no Banelords then?

@ Andy 2 + minis will make a unit as long as one of them is a command figure ie: Standard, muso or a champion. Though in the case of 2 entrants with equal painting ability/theme/basing etc we would look more favourable on a full (5+) unit.

@ Wendy - no BaneLords/Beasts for this competition. Just models that are game-legal in Darklands. as most of the Banelegions range was integrated into Darklands it's just a dozen or so miniatures from the Mierce range that will be excluded. (basically anything listed under 'Darklands' is fine, anything under 'Banelegions' isn't)

That's right - both would be fine for the single model section.
