Hi guys just wanted to let you know that our company Acolyte Miniatures has just made our debut figure The Butcher 32mm, resin miniature available to pre-order now. We have had a tonne of fun designing The Butcher and are so happy to finally have him available. Ultimately we want to create a game with these characters but they can also be standalone figures in their own right. You ...

    Review: Solomon Kane

Introduction FeR miniatures is becoming one of the go-to sites for larger scale miniatures in recent times, developing a reputation for producing stunning busts and figures, and collaborating with sculptors such as Raffaele Picca and David Zabrocki. It is run by the equally talented painter Fernando Ruiz, who in fact painted the box art for the kit we're looking at here. Chances are that if you've seen a historical figure/bust on Facebook or Putty & Paint over the last 12 months, it's from this ...

Coming Clean: Colours of Battle Paints

Sometimes reviews are just hard to write. Often itís because what youíre reviewing is hard to define within the scope youíre used to working in; itís something new, a deviation. But what could be more straight forward than reviewing paints? Iíve done it before, after all. So why was a review so difficult to write? Part of the reason is that, as far as my research has shown, these paints are manufactured by the same company that makes Privateer Pressí P3 line of paints. Theyíre even in the same...

Goblin Chieftain by Dark Art Studios

    Name: Goblin Chieftain

    Sculptor: Byron Townshend
    Material: Resin
Price: 20 GBP (during November 2013 this is reduced to 15 GBP on their store)

Dark Art Studio is a relatively new (at least to me) company that does a range of 28mm/32mm fantasy miniatures that ranges from goblins to undead, ogres and mercenaries. As stated on their website, Dark-Art-Studios was founded in 2004 by the 5 Townshend...

  • Painting Faces

    Painting Faces

You can never have too many tutorials on how to paint faces, right? Well, hopefully because here's another one... This is my general approach to painting human faces. The main example is a 54mm figure but I use the same ideas on 28mm and 75 or 90mm figures. The difference with going up or down in scale is the level of detail we can reasonably expect to achieve. If you're painting a smaller figure don't worry about putting as much detail into the eyes. For the face focus on the main shapes/feat...

    GoreRot SBS (Caution Pic Heavy!)

Hello once again! It has been some time since my last step by step. Last winter I painted up a great little miniature from Mannequin Miniatures, a goblin assassin named Gorerot. Here is a detailed step by step of how I painted him up. I initially began with a gray primer and took a photo with a single bright light directly overhead and very close to the miniature to give myself a reference on where to place shadows and highlights: Skin, Eyes and Nails: I wanted to go with something a bit d...

Painting a 54mm Historical Figure - Greek Hoplite

This article will cover the painting of a 54mm Greek Hoplite from Romeo Models. Iíll be working with acrylic paint, primarily Reaper Master Series (RMS) although I also use some Vallejo Model Air (VMA), GW, and Andrea as well. One thing that attracts me to figures from the ancient and medieval time periods is that they can work for both historical and fantasy painters. You can do you your research and be as historically accurate as possible or let your imagination run, pair a medieval knight with...

The Joy that is Monte San Savino, A Report

Monte San Savino has been and gone and I have finally, finally, finally been able to collect my thoughts after a stunning weekend filled with models, mead and many beautiful people. Before I give you an account of the event and the immensely warm community surrounding it, I just have to say that Monte San Savino (MSS) is the best competition in the world and if you havenít gone, you must go, make boats, craft cars, sell you kidneys, hell, loan your kids out! Do what you can to make

  • The Hotseat: Demented Games
    by Darklord

In this Hotseat we sit down and chat with thee guys from Demented Games, the Australian company behind the wonderful Twisted game.

Seb, Its almost 11 years to the day we sat you down in the hotseat. Back then there was no Guild of Harmony or Twisted. So how did things pan out in that time to bring you to where you are now? (Read Sebs original interview here: Seb Archer )

(Seb) Wow 11 years - yes, things have certainly changed a lot in that time! Last time...

  • Warploque Miniatures – A comparison between cast and printed miniatures.
    by Brambleten
Anyone that has received a resin miniature from Warploque Miniatures will know, from the title, that this is a very unfair comparison to put together. There are two casters that I would recommend above all others in the UK – BrokenToad, and Rob Huntley of Warploque Miniatures - I've never had a bad or mediocre cast from either. Nevertheless, I got my hands on my first 3D printed miniatures recently and as they’re from Warploque via their Digital Workshop, it’s a comparison I’m going to make....

  • Review: She-Hulk for Marvel: Crisis Protocol from Atomic Mass Games
    by Brambleten
Welcome to this review of She-Hulk from Atomic Mass Games! It is my first review for a while (or at least my first review longer than an Instagram snippet) so I'm a little rusty and may well get carried away and ramble in places – apologies in advance.

At the time of writing, She-Hulk is the latest release from Atomic Mass Games for their Marvel: Crisis Protocol tabletop skirmish game. The great thing about The Crisis Protocol kits is that they’re all uniformly...
