    Hycote Primer Test

Following on from the little discussion, if it can even have been called that, I bought some grey primer. I checked through CMoN and demonherald had mentioned Hycote Grey Primer. I knew there was a car supply shop relatively near so I went and got some.

I took a couple of old minis, cleaned up a small area on each and did before and after shots. So here they are.

The bits of dust were due to me not being particularly careful and making sure there was none. The results are good.

I'm a cheap primer advocate. I buy $2 home furnishing from the grocery store in black, white and grey. I use the white for more vibrant cartoony stuff, black for almost everything and rarely use the grey. To be honest, the GW white that I also own ($10) but rarely use tends to get real gritty for me. I hate it. So I but the cheap stuff and have never had any kind of problems with it.

    Thanks for the review Roger!

Well the coverage looks good but how well does the paint stick to it?

I'll have to get back to you on that. The primer needs time to harden properly.

I'm a big advocate of "Armory" primers in grey, black, or white. Their matte and glos varnishes are very good for protection of the figs, but I coat them in Testor's Dullcote for a true-r matte finish.

Good luck with the primer Roger! Of course this means that you'll have to put paint on them!

Just had a look at the army painter stuff. It's 7.99 for the same size can as the Hycote. Nearly three times the cost. And for me, I can walk to the shop that has the Hycote so not adding any postage to the cost.

Yeah the key factor for Roger isn't how well it goes on but how well it comes off when he strips it :lol
