LoTR is also cheap and it's possible to buy a cheap army, though as its a system that's is losing is payer base and rumours that GW will dump the system is probably why. Though some armies could be used with other systems, Rohan could double as Dark Age army and Harad could become a puesudo Arabian army.

LOL @ payer. I know it's a typo, but so befitting LMAO

I guess it is a cheap way to go. but having played it for almost 15 years, it's a great system. I think it's the best GW have come up with. both strategic and tactical...

I agree that it's actually the better of the three systems...

I've been doing some research on ebay and a cheap way into Warhammer is to pick up an old starter set cheap. The fantasy starter sets from 4-6th edition go surprisingly cheap and a lot of the time they're unused. I've got my eye on a couple and if I win one the plan will be to keep one set of minis and sell the other army. This would then make the purchase even cheaper.

I've also seen some of the 40k battle force sets go cheap. I missed out on an unused Cadian battle force box which went for 20, a saving of 40 quid.

So I'm on the lookout for starter set on ebay. I'll one of the armies and sell the other....

Ok, first high elf unit has been bought 15. Sword masters of Hoeth for 5.75. The retail price would have been 61.50

You can also find pretty good deals on Bartertown. Sometimes much much better deals than evilbay.

Ok, been a little bad, and broke a rule. Whilst bidding on the High Elf. Swordsmen, I placed a bid on a High elf griffon, and I won that as well for 3.50, not sure what it would cost retail because bit normally comes with the starter set.
