    RIP John Hughes

    I am sad.
I must have reached that age where my heroes start dying.
Growning up in the 80s, his films were a big part of life - Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club... (we'll not mention Home Alone)

the man was really prolific - lots of truly iconic movies - no matter what you think of the quality or content.
Despite not directing very many films he produced and wrote loads - including writing for Drillbit Taylor under a psuedenom.

Planes, trains and Automobiles has to be my fav.

    IMDB list of directed films.
    # Curly Sue (1991)
    # Uncle Buck (1989)
    # She's Having a Baby (1988)
    # Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987)
    # Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
    # Weird Science (1985)
    # The Breakfast Club (1985)
    # Sixteen Candles (1984)

Loved quite a few of his movies. For me, things like The Breakfast Club were the definition of my generation. And a lot of us guys so desperately wanted to be Ferris Bueller.
To equate intelligence and wisdom with occupation is, at best, insulting.

My favorite John Hughes reference is in the Kevin Smith movies where Jay and Silent Bob decide to go to Sherman Illinois to start dealing drugs. Then they get pissed off that there IS no Sherman Illinois and that John Hughes is a liar.

59 is young, at least he didn't suffer a long spiral down. RIP buddy!

I imagine him doing the Judd Nelson fist pump with that "Don't you forget about me" (was that tears for Fears?) playing in the background when he gets to heaven.
