One of the newest miniatures released by Privateer Press is the Fane Knight Skeryth Issyen, who is being released as a part of their Retribution of Scyrah. This multi-part white metal kit contains 2 different versions of the character- 1 mounted on a heavily armored horse, and the other on foot.

The first thing I noticed about this kit upon opening the large box is that they use a very large clamshell style case to hold just a few parts. I understand the standardization of packing meterials keeps their costs down, but the abundance of open space means the parts can shift and move a lot, which resulted in a slightly mangled lance for the mounted version.

The horse comes in 3 pieces- 2 halves of the body and the head,, plus the knight’s body, head, and lance. The standing version consists of body, head, and hands gripping the lance. A 50mm and 30mm slotta base are included.

The casts are clean with very few mold lines and the details are crisp and clean. The standing knight can be assembled easily with very little prep work. The mounted knight, however, is a completely different issue.

The halves of the horse’s body fit together very roughly- it will take a fair amount of filing and a little putty work to get them to fit cleanly. The head fits in place easier, but still requires a fair amount of gap filling. The knight’s torso is a little akward to place- I would highly suggest pinning it in place- and it also requires some putty work to fill a small gap along his spine. The head and lance arm fit into place easily, but as I mentioned the lance itself was bent out of shape.

    The Breakdown:

    Quality: 8.5 / 10
    *Clean cast with crisp details
*Design of horse assembly doesn’t fit together well

    Assembly: 8 / 10
*Standing version of Knight fits together easily
*Horse requires a good amount of filing and gap filling
*Bent spear can be difficult to straighten

    Value: 7.5 / 10
*Average price for larger Warmachine minis

    Overall: 8 / 10
While this kit does have some assembly issues they’re not horrible and they don’t affect the detail or quality of the miniature. The details aren’t overdone so there are some nice open areas for freehanding. It seems like it would be a fun mini to paint.

Nice review CT, some of their minis are a pig to assemble but the end result is usually nice. I don't like the models much myself, they don't seem very unique.

  • Warploque Miniatures – A comparison between cast and printed miniatures.
    by Brambleten
Anyone that has received a resin miniature from Warploque Miniatures will know, from the title, that this is a very unfair comparison to put together. There are two casters that I would recommend above all others in the UK – BrokenToad, and Rob Huntley of Warploque Miniatures - I've never had a bad or mediocre cast from either. Nevertheless, I got my hands on my first 3D printed miniatures recently and as they’re from Warploque via their Digital Workshop, it’s a comparison I’m going to make....

  • Review: She-Hulk for Marvel: Crisis Protocol from Atomic Mass Games
    by Brambleten
Welcome to this review of She-Hulk from Atomic Mass Games! It is my first review for a while (or at least my first review longer than an Instagram snippet) so I'm a little rusty and may well get carried away and ramble in places – apologies in advance.

At the time of writing, She-Hulk is the latest release from Atomic Mass Games for their Marvel: Crisis Protocol tabletop skirmish game. The great thing about The Crisis Protocol kits is that they’re all uniformly...

Introduction FeR miniatures is becoming one of the go-to sites for larger scale miniatures in recent times, developing a reputation for producing stunning busts and figures, and collaborating with sculptors such as Raffaele Picca and David Zabrocki. It is run by the equally talented painter Fernando Ruiz, who in fact painted the box art for the kit we're looking at here. Chances are that if you've seen a historical figure/bust on Facebook or Putty & Paint over the last 12 months, it's from this ...

  • Coming Clean: Colours of Battle Paints
    by Cregan Tur
Sometimes reviews are just hard to write. Often it’s because what you’re reviewing is hard to define within the scope you’re used to working in; it’s something new, a deviation. But what could be more straight forward than reviewing paints? I’ve done it before, after all. So why was a review so difficult to write? Part of the reason is that, as far as my research has shown, these paints are manufactured by the same company that makes Privateer Press’ P3 line of paints. They’re even in the same...
