The Joy that is Monte San Savino, A Report
...Monte San Savino has been and gone and I have finally, finally, finally been able to collect my thoughts after a stunning weekend filled with models, mead and many beautiful people. Before I give you an account of the event and the immensely warm community surrounding it, I just have to say that Monte San Savino (MSS) is the best competition in the world and if you haven’t gone, you must go, make boats, craft cars, sell you kidneys, hell, loan your kids out! Do what you can to make -

Planning to Paint Haan from Figone
For this article I thought I would consider a different aspect to painting, how to plan and gain inspiration in preparation for painting a miniature. I've not really seen much written about this and to me it seems often forgotten or at best done subconsciously. I know from experience that many times I blunder into a paint job without thinking things through, I paint as I go making little decisions at each stage without considering the bigger picture. In the past year I've really appreciated how things ... -

Monte San Savino 2013
Wow - what a weekend MSS is - words cannot do it justice although many have tried given there are countless blogs, articles and picture albums dedicated to the show already. This should tell you loads about MSS - people care and love the show so much they want to share it with the world. That's exactly how it leaves you feeling; It makes you love painting in whole new ways, gives you heart and ambition and ultimately leaves you realizing that we're just a big painting family. No other show or com... -

X-Wing Carry Case/Board
X-Wing games can be played on a 3'x3' foot board. It just so happens that if you turn the hinges around on a wallpaper pasting table you get a 3'x3' board and a handy carry case to store your game and 3 possibly 4 foam inserts to keep your miniatures safe. Time required 30 minutes to an hour. Materials needed: 1x Pasting table Flat head screw driver Phillips head screwdriver Latex gloves Plates or pan lids Spray paints (black, white and primary colours) Mask Glossy magazine B&Q currently s... -

Winter White Wash Camo Effect
Hello guys and girls, today I am going to be covering how to achieve the winter white wash effect I created on my Dust Tactics Medium Assault Walker.
The winter white wash technique I am going to talk about is very much from the military modelling world, they have been using it for years and although I don't have an interest in World War One or Two vehicles I am fascinated with some of the fantastic models the military side of the hobby can create, so, quite often...

Darkmessiah's Guide to Contrast - Part 2
4. Texture Texture is a type of contrast that has been used in the historical side of the hobby for many years and has started being used by more and more by painters on the sci fi and fantasy side of the hobby. Texture is about creating a random pattern, usually with sponges or paint brushes. Texture is usually used to recreate the look of leather, fabric and paint chips, although is becoming increasing popular in creating the texture of stone and heavily used armour. Texture is a great ... -

In this Hotseat we sit down and chat with thee guys from Demented Games, the Australian company behind the wonderful Twisted game.
Seb, Its almost 11 years to the day we sat you down in the hotseat. Back then there was no Guild of Harmony or Twisted. So how did things pan out in that time to bring you to where you are now? (Read Sebs original interview here: Seb Archer )
(Seb) Wow 11 years - yes, things have certainly changed a lot in that time! Last time...-

Anyone that has received a resin miniature from Warploque Miniatures will know, from the title, that this is a very unfair comparison to put together. There are two casters that I would recommend above all others in the UK – BrokenToad, and Rob Huntley of Warploque Miniatures - I've never had a bad or mediocre cast from either. Nevertheless, I got my hands on my first 3D printed miniatures recently and as they’re from Warploque via their Digital Workshop, it’s a comparison I’m going to make....

Welcome to this review of She-Hulk from Atomic Mass Games! It is my first review for a while (or at least my first review longer than an Instagram snippet) so I'm a little rusty and may well get carried away and ramble in places – apologies in advance.
At the time of writing, She-Hulk is the latest release from Atomic Mass Games for their Marvel: Crisis Protocol tabletop skirmish game. The great thing about The Crisis Protocol kits is that they’re all uniformly...-

Introduction FeR miniatures is becoming one of the go-to sites for larger scale miniatures in recent times, developing a reputation for producing stunning busts and figures, and collaborating with sculptors such as Raffaele Picca and David Zabrocki. It is run by the equally talented painter Fernando Ruiz, who in fact painted the box art for the kit we're looking at here. Chances are that if you've seen a historical figure/bust on Facebook or Putty & Paint over the last 12 months, it's from this ...

Sometimes reviews are just hard to write. Often it’s because what you’re reviewing is hard to define within the scope you’re used to working in; it’s something new, a deviation. But what could be more straight forward than reviewing paints? I’ve done it before, after all. So why was a review so difficult to write? Part of the reason is that, as far as my research has shown, these paints are manufactured by the same company that makes Privateer Press’ P3 line of paints. They’re even in the same...
