Painting Stand by Exile
I had a few questions about my stands and as I had enough bits to make one I have done this tutorial
the pictures tell it mostly but a few word to help
1. The fitting is from B&Q (a cabinet joint) and the washer also, you can use anything as the body but I have loads of empty GW pots
2.& 3. fist thing to note is these pegs on the fitting if you want to use it for GW style tabs as well as pins you need to cut half the peg off to give the room for the tag to sit
4. N.B only stick ONE side of the fitting or you will be in trouble, the washer is so when you have a bigger figure on the stand it does not get top heavy
5. Finished article.-

You can never have too many tutorials on how to paint faces, right? Well, hopefully because here's another one... This is my general approach to painting human faces. The main example is a 54mm figure but I use the same ideas on 28mm and 75 or 90mm figures. The difference with going up or down in scale is the level of detail we can reasonably expect to achieve. If you're painting a smaller figure don't worry about putting as much detail into the eyes. For the face focus on the main shapes/feat...

This article will cover the painting of a 54mm Greek Hoplite from Romeo Models. I’ll be working with acrylic paint, primarily Reaper Master Series (RMS) although I also use some Vallejo Model Air (VMA), GW, and Andrea as well. One thing that attracts me to figures from the ancient and medieval time periods is that they can work for both historical and fantasy painters. You can do you your research and be as historically accurate as possible or let your imagination run, pair a medieval knight with...

A nice, fast and easy way to create an earth base for your miniature using Vallejo paste.
The Vallejo paste which I am using is a mixture of pumice stone and acrylic resin.
The colors I used for this tutorial were calthan brown and bleached bone from Games Workshop.

As soon as the competition was announced and I read James' stipulations on winning the event, I started thinking about what to do. From Infamy range I had Holmes, Watson, Henrietta and Frank so I decided to use them all in a diorama. Knowing that Infamy is about to become a skirmish game, I also wanted to make my minis playable later on so I had to devise a way of inserting the minis into the diorama without it looking too obvious. When approaching such a project, I always start from a sketch, r...

One of the things I love to add to my figures is a design or pattern, something unique to make it stand out from the many other versions you may see around the web. This can take the form of a small detail like a line or pattern on a piece of clothing, an emblem on a shield or flag, or something much more complex. Painting designs on your figure can really be as simple or as complicated as you'd like. I recommend starting small with simple designs and then working your way up to more ...

Painting skin on your models can be tricky and, at times, quite frustrating. But once you get a handle on it, it's actually a lot of fun and gives you plenty of room to experiment. My goal in this tutorial is to share my general approach to painting skin and give you a number of mixes and corresponding figure examples. When it comes to paints there are a lot of good choices (GW, Vallejo, P3, etc). However for this tutorial I'm mostly using Reaper Master Series. I like these because (a)...
