For those that are unaware the World Expo takes place every 3 years and changes country each time, 3 years ago it was in Girona, Spain just outside Barcelona, 3 years before that I believe it was in the States and this year it is in Montraux, Switzerland.

A spectacular event to say the least with people attending from all over the world and many look forward to this as much as they do Euro-Militaire. Officially starting tomorrow and running all weekend a lot of people arrive early (like 2 or 3 days early!!) this means that coverage of the event started yesterday and there are 3 videos available to view as well as an album of some of the early competition entries. The competition is slightly different to what most people are used to as when a person enters they are judged on their actual display, all models are judged but only the best of that persons display will get an award if it is worthy (unless they have changed the rules)

Anyway enough of my rambling, the first of the photos can be found HERE (https://picasaweb.google.com/104859271784963373342/WorldExpo2011#) and the video's marked as Mercredi 17.2 and Jeudi 18 showing some of what is going on can be found HERE (http://www.figurines-tv.com/kws/index.php)

I will update this thread over the weekend as more photos become available

Wish I was there the scenary and weather looks fantastic

some really nice work there. i particularly like the two dio's with fences seen via your first link; one poignant, the other full of action. :)

I had thought about going but the other half's holidays are all at set intervals (difference with working in all this internationally subsidised employment methinks!) so it wasn't the right weeks. Lovely place though!

Rest of the video's are up including the speed painting competition which was different to say the least because they could only paint for so long with one item before it was changed, at one stage they were not allowed to paint with a brush so one girl used her own hair!!!

Anyway video's are HERE (http://www.figurines-tv.com/kws/)

Best of Show were as follows:
BOS Fantasy: M. Kontraros
BOS Histo : Bill Horan

Naoned has put together a list of all the links he has found with coverage of the event HERE (http://www.chevaliers-du-centaure.org/?Les_evenements:Annee_2011:World_Expo_2011) and are at the bottom of the page.

I have to admit I love that deck of cards.

Some more photos from one of the clubs that attended, it is a Facebook gallery but you don't need to have an account to view it. Stunning work and if this is what Crystal Brush are trying to attract to the States they have a very long way to go LINK (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.221701231211665.47388.171129899602132&l=dfb59d7e6c&type=1&closeTheater=1)

Some of the entries were at Euro-Militaire last year but at this standard it is always nice to see them again

Hi everyone - a few pics I snapped while I was over there. Best miniature event I've ever been to! Rest of the photos are here. (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v153/amasafet/world%20expo%202011/) I picked up highly commended in both fantasy and historical advanced painting categories, so I'm extremely pleased with myself. Next time, I'm hoping to grab silvers. Well, that's the plan, anyway...

Conrad, Seb, Weisern, Kaiten and myself, enjoying a late night drink.

Bill Horan's transport solution for his Best in Show - a cardboard box held together with tape and secured with string, later put into a duffel bag. He's been going to events for years, so I assume he knows what he's doing, but it had me in stitches watching him do it while everyone else had solid wood cases with reinforced edges and corners...

My historical piece right next to Rusto's selection. I had a minor geekgasm when I realised.

And my fantasy selection next to Picster's, including his sword-winning piece...
