View Full Version : Studio McVey Painting Contest - Results

04-04-2011, 06:38 PM

Wow! What a contest. 16 absolutely entries showed us how high the standard has got on Wamp. The beauty of the McVey miniatures really pushing competitors to produce some of their best work and give us all a figmentia feast.
I for 1 am glad I didn't have to choose our worthy winners as that honour fell to The Posh 'n' Becks of the miniature world, The McVey''s themselves. So without further ado (because you've probably already skipped this to see the results anyway!) I have great pleasure in announcing the winner of the Studio McVey painting contest is........

with his stunning entry Y'Sala and Darkness:

In a very close fought second is.....

with his superb Lt Kara Black (http://www.wamp-forum.com/photopost/data/707/jensac0l.jpg)

and in a well deserved 3rd place is Rusto with his lovely entry 'Paint and Love' (http://www.wamp-forum.com/photopost/data/707/paint_and_love.jpg)

So a hearty congratulations to all our winners especially our overall winner Iacton. Our gracious sponsors have kindly passed on a few of their thoughts on some of the entries:

1st place - Y'Sala and Darkness by Iacton - I think this piece is an improvement on the studio scheme. There's a lot going on but it all works perfectly. Y'Sala's face is beautifully painted - not an easy task at this scale.

2nd place - Lt Kara Black by Jens - It was very close between 1st and 2nd place. There's some superb painting on this one and the colour scheme works really well. Overall the piece has really nice atmosphere. We had to be unbelievably picky to chose between 1st and 2nd place. In the end Iacton did such a fantastic job of balancing the colour scheme between the two elements -Y'Sala and Darkness and it tipped the judges scales in his favour.

3rd place - Paint and Love by Rusto - We like the thought that's gone into the basing of this one. The colour scheme is great and there's some really nice painting on here, especially like the board.

It was such a good turn out and so many of the entries deserve an honourable mention - Here's just a few that really stood out.

Daveyboy's Broga - Nice job. I was really fond of those colours - very striking!
Aphorys' Y'Sidyra - Insane color scheme but I really liked it. Plus the painting was technically very good.
Chameleon's Ar-Fienel also stood out for me not only for the colour scheme though;) there was some lovely smooth painting on her.
Lastly there were some lovely Al-Viannas. (If Pae had spent more time on that base he would have definitely been a contender).

Although Mike's been over in Chicago, we've discussed all the entries and we both agree that the standard of painting in this competition has been really high. Plus it's been especially nice for us to see all this beautiful painting on Studio McVey models. It's been very hard to pick the winners.

Thanks to all who entered.
So there we are folks, it's been a fantastic contest to watch with some beautiful entries. If you haven't picked up a McVey piece yet I highly recommend you do - some of the finest miniatures you can buy. You can find the McVey site here (http://www.studiomcvey.com/)

So thank you to the McVey's, thank you to our competitors and thank you to everyone that took the time to go and comment on the entries, I know the artists appreciate it.

Winners if you can pm me your details please.

Mike and Ali will be helping judge WAMP2011 so try and come along and thank them in person (and enter the contest!!)

And if you missed this contest there's always next year!
