It's time to get another contest under-way and it's the turn of Avatars of War. Returning for it's third year, the Avatars of War contest is always one of our most popular due to the fantastic painter friendly miniatures they produce.

I'm sure you need no encouragement to enter but to sweeten the deal how about a prize or two?

1st - 5 Avatars of War Miniatures
2nd - 4 Avatars Of War Miniatures
3rd - 3 Avatars Of War Miniatures

The Deadline for entries will be 27th April 2011
(Supporters deadline will be 30th April 2011)

The rules:

You must be a Wamp Member to participate. Membership is free and you may register here. (http://www.wamp-forum.com/VB4/register.php)
You may enter as many times as you like but each entry may only submit one photograph so if you need more angles it MUST be a montage.
Images must be no larger than 800 pixels wide by 2500 pixels high. (It is your responsibility to check this).
any additional photographs of that entry will be removed.
All entries must be new work. (New work is defined as any entry not previously displayed on-line in a completed state (You MAY enter pieces which have been shown as a Work In Progress (WIP)).
You give Wamp and Avatars of War permission to use your pictures for publicity (but you do retain ownership).
You may post pictures of WIP or final shots both here and elsewhere.
Judging will be decided by public vote.
Submissions must be posted to the Avatars of War album (http://www.wamp-forum.com/photopost/g718-avatars-of-war-2011.html)

You may enter a single miniature, diorama full 300 piece battle scene - whatever you like as long as its inherently Avatars of War.

Please folks make sure you read the rules (especially the new work one!!)

I know there have been issues with prizes been delayed in the previous contest. I have asked for the prizes to be sent to me and I shall send them out to the winners.

So there you are folks. Avatars of War are great mini's to paint so hopefully we can get a good turn out once again and surpass the 16 entries we got last year.

As always any questions feel free to contact me.

If you cant get hold of a mini post a thread up - there's probably a few Wampers that can spare one for a little cash or swapsies!

thanks

If anyone's got that Barbarian figure lurking around and has no use for it, I'd be more than happy to take it off someone's hands :) . Happy to give cold, hard cash or possibly some sort of trade...for some reason I have an awful lot of JoeK Minis around :p

Very nice! I really liked many entries in last year's contest :) Depending on if I get my order from CMON delivered in time, I'll paint up a dwarf for this one. Otherwise, I'll paint the big ugly goblin king.

Between McVey, PaintWars, this, and whatever else I end up doing, I foresee a busy painting schedule ahead. Good thing I've cut back on the WoW.

Hi all, been a while since I posted on here, but I have been lurking! The Avatars of War range is just too nice to pass up, so I think I just might have to paint something up for it...

The rule is there more that its still recognisable that its a avatars of war mini to begin with. Changing to sci fi isnt a problem - sounds rather cool in fact.

Ah! I've never partecipated a contest - no time and no skill - but this time here I am. A couple of months ago I bought two miniatures from AoW (very gentle people - they were a little bit in late with my order and they sent to me a brief explanation about the cause).

Good timing, my Avatars of War stuff from Little Angels just arrived yesterday! I'm going to try painting up the Lizardman Character. It will be a new thing for me because I don't have a lizardman army and I've never painted anything like that. Painting a model just for the sake of painting it - yikes!

I'm looking into an alternative supplier for some official shirts. These would be with embroidered logos instead, hopefully I can find one that covers worldwide shipping.
I assume you mean the shirts with the wamp logo on and not the others?

download picasa free program and handy without been too complicated. Once you have it and your photo on it go to File then export to folder - the box brings up a resize to option - use that.
You can also go for another free prgram called Gimp - basically like a free version of Photoshop. Theres plenty of tutorials on that about the site

I used something free called Irfranview, very easy to use and do stuff on. There's also something called GIMP that's very well described in issue 7 and 8 of the Portal. You should check it out as you'll find some fantastic info there!

Just to check the deadline(been screwed out of two online comps recently thanks to not understanding deadlines!), is it 11:59 Saturday night, or 11:59 Friday night? Other comps have not really been explicit (saying midnight, which to my mind is the end of the date mentioned, not the start!). Done a bit more on mine, trying out different techniques and stuff. Will hopefully have two entries sorted by the deadline whatever it may be!

The picture is too big so the software shrinks it - make sure its no bigger than 800px wide and 2500px high then it will show full size - If your quick you can reupload a correct sized picture and Ill sort it

Well, got a bit of extended free time this evening, so one entry is nearly done. Will see what happens tomorrow and Saturday now! (pics up in my WIP thread)

Allright! Done! It's in the freezer for an hour, then picture time. This was a lot of hours into this mini. I'd guess at around 30 or so. Maybe more.

why have you put it in the freezer? does that get you a better score on coolmini?

Sorry, it's early....I'll get my coat right now.

I suppose it did sound retarded. I mount my mini's on a wooden block for painting and I use a hot glue gun. If I toss the mini in the freezer for an hour the glue gets brittle and I can just pop it off easy times.

Interesting - might try that

do you not pin your minis? I do for them all so put the pin into the mini then just push this into a wine cork glued to a 25mm round base - cheap and easy to hold - no faffiing with glue or freezers

I do pin my mini's to the base on occasion. I like having something bulkier than a cork or pin vice to paint with though.

I like to integrate my mini's onto their base as early as possible (usually) so I took to this route. I think I saw it first in a thread Liz was doing way back in da day. It's really no trouble. In the freezer for an hour, put my GW sculpting tool under the mini and POP! It comes off pretty easy. Usually...

Maybe I sound stupid, but as it is my first competition ever, I'll risk the ridicule ;)

How does the voting work?

No worries buddy.
Voting is a poll vote you will get three votes to cast for your favourite three minis - once votings closed the winners are those with most votes
