Well the year is getting on but you would be forgiven for thinking its christmas because we have another painting contest for you.
The manufacturer for your delectation is Iron Wind Metals.

Each entrant is only eligible for one prize. In the event of an entrant winning more than one prize they will receive the prize of highest value - any subsequent prizes will be awarded to the next highest placed entrant.

All entries must be new work within the last 3 months and previously unpublished in other contests

You give Wamp and Iron Wind Metals permission to use your pictures for publicity (but you do retain owenrship)

You may post pictures of WIP or final shots both here and elsewhere

I have a question ... I am currently deciding on a miniature to paint for the contest and I came across this really old IWM miniature in my bits box. The miniature as a whole is OOP and has been for a while, but individual parts from this mini are still available through the IWM online store (albeit not all).

Would this miniature be eligible for the contest?

Another question - is it ok to modify (e.g. repose) the entry?

Darklord

has to be the mini itself thats available im afraid.
as for reposing that is fine

Is there a UK based supplier of these?

GunjiNoKanrei
22-09-2009, 04:43 PM
@Darklord: Yes, I have options. No worries ;)

@warhammergrimace: Try Ral Partha Europe (http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/). IWM was RP before becoming Iron Wind Metals.

Ral Patha Europe carries most if not all of IWM's products (usually a few month after the US release though). You might want to cross-check with the IWM online store before ordering to make sure the mini is available there too.

I'm totally in on this! I found 4-5 old minis that they sell so I'm good.

If anyone needs to trade I a few extra random fantasy minsi I could part with. Lemme know and I can send one out ASAP, no rush on the return or w/e.

Can't wait to paint a cool fantasy mini again!

Just order a light lance of IS mechs from RPE, after double-checking they're all currently available from IWM ;)

Don't know if I'll paint them all in time, but I only need to finish one of them, I suppose! :)

My five adventurers arrived this morning along with a doom Bunny miniature from Ral Partha. So I've got a party of five to paint for the comp, which includes a wizard, a cleric, a thief, fighter and ranger. Yep I've gone for the classic D&D adventurers.

Wait a minute ...

All entries must use an Iron Wind Metals miniature that was available to buy from their store within the last 12 months
This means the mini has to be a new miniature which was released within the last year??? I thought it meant that I could chose any miniature I could have bought from their online shop in the last year even if the initial release was say 3 or 4 years ago (and it isn't available from the store right now but it was available for example 3 month ago). To me the former would be "... that was made available ...".

Sorry for the confusion ... sometimes I hate it that English is not my first language ...

The miniature I wanted to paint for the contest was released ... I don't know ... probably 5 or 6 years ago ... but it is currently available from the IWM online shop, so I thought it would be ok according to the rules.

Please clarify :)

Judging by the dates from the IWM website I guess they launched their online shop in August 2008 ... many of the products they list which were added in August 2008 were initially released many years ago.

Darklord
29-09-2009, 12:02 AM
it doesnt matter when it was released as long as it was still available to buy 12 months ago - so yours is fine - it can be 20 years old as long as they were still selling last year

Top markes, RPE! Very impressed with their speed and postage rates!

many more planned? you have a few days!

NeatPete
14-10-2009, 07:25 PM
Forgive me if this has been answered already, but the Scibor prizes confuse me. Will the top 3 win prizes from both IWM and Scibor? Or will the top 3 recieve the IWM prizes and then 4-6 recieve Scibor prizes? I hope its some version of the latter so we can spread the love around. I'll go read this entire thread and prob. find my answser.
Thanks

Darklord
15-10-2009, 03:28 PM
well superglue finally arrived so glued mine back together after the arm dropped off - just a slight blotch on the base to fix then varnish and photos.
Enjoyed painting this - a real tonic after the petulant engine.
looks like Ironwind have a new fan

Go James!! thats the most entries anyone has ever got into one contest!! love the variety too.

GunjiNoKanrei

My entries are in.

Plan C - a Panther I finished in August. It just falls into the allowed timeframe and was my "emergency plan" the whole time.

Plan B - a Locust BattleMech I finished late yesterday evening. The core of this miniature is IWM 20-261, but I have scratchbuild new arms. The pictures aren't the best and the mini looked good until I decided to use my "amazing free hand skills" (read: non existing ...) on it.

Plan A - this was supposed to be my "main entry", but never made it past the primer stage ... don't ask.

Darklord
19-10-2009, 12:26 PM

can you take the vacumn cleaner bag out and vacumn it up? if you think it woulnd't damage it??
That sucks, I lost a peice once during IP and couldn't find it for a day.

If its flooring you can roll a flash light on the ground and catch a shadow. We'd do that at my old job to find tiny screws.

waghorn41
19-10-2009, 10:50 PM
Just spent another fruitless hour searching and given up. Minus an undercarriage and hastily finished and put together just to add another entry - and one that's different to the rest. Photos don't do it justice tbh. I've left the clear propellor disc off so the painted-on radial engine detail can be seen.

Jabberwocky
20-10-2009, 05:41 AM
I think I can, I think I can...just down to the basing and touch-ups now!

Darklord
20-10-2009, 09:11 AM
petes idea is good - get the vacumn and place some tights over the end of the nozzle then hoover - this will pick bits up but not pass through the tights - its a great way to find lost earrings too.

im borrowing a camera tonight hopefully to see if i can better my pics

Darklord
20-10-2009, 09:13 PM
well my wife borrowed a couple of cameras from school for me to try - only compacts and one was worse than mine but the other seems better. So i finally managed to get something reasonable, unfortunatly both halogens have blown in the last 24 hours so i only had one angle poise to work with but still begtter than my usual photos. Hopefully if i can get some bulbs tomorrow i can grab some light tent shots before thursdays deadline.. heck i might even attempt photogrphing the petulant engine to show you all!!

anyway heres my entry:

Still haven't found the piece that fell off my entry

Oh well, it was in on time.

btw the G-WAMP on the side represents a British civil aircraft registration (it's not actually on anything at the moment and hasn't been used before - use it on your private jet DL). As I painted this in ordinary colours I thought it should promote WaMP. UK reg starts G-, I know US start N, Canada CF etc..............
