Is there no end to these contest? NO they just keep coming full of lovely prizes for the painting gladiators of Wamp, tempting yout time constraints to the limit with their promises of free metal goodness and this one is no different (well, ok a little different - but only the prizes!)

Its now the turn of Urban Mammoth

First up the rules:

You must be a Wamp Member to participate although membership is free.

You may enter as many times as you like but each entry may only submit one photograph so if you need more angles it MUST be a montage
any additional photographs of that entry will be removed

Each entrant is only eligible for one prize. In the event of an entrant winning more than one prize they will receive the prize of highest value - any subsequent prizes will be awarded to the next highest placed entrant.

All entries must be new work

You give Wamp and Urban Mammoth permission to use your pictures for publicity (but you do retain owenrship)

You may post pictures of WIP or final shots both here and elsewhere

Judging will be carried out by an open public vote which will run for 5 days
The deadline for submission is 15th September 5pm GMT

IF you are a wamp supporter then you benefit from an extended dealine which will be 72 hours later at 5pm 18th September GMT (for details on becoming a wamp sponsor please visits the announcements section)

Submissions must be posted to the Urban Mammoth contest album

All entries must feature Urban Mammoth miniatures only. You may use accesories and bases from other companies as long as the piece is inherently Urban Mammoth

You may enter a single miniature, diorama full 300 piece battle scene - whatever you like as long as its Urban Mammoth.

Any problems or questions then feel free to ask here or pm me

Now the good bit:
the prizes:

this contest is a little different - no run of the mill lead up for grabs here but medals! Special Urban Mammoth medals for the first 3 places are up for grabs

DING! Done. I'll montage and enter my commander guy from way back when.

18-08-2009, 05:26 PM
you can enter more than once if you want to buddy

18-08-2009, 06:27 PM
that was quick!

18-08-2009, 06:51 PM
that was quick!

explains his standard of painting!!

18-08-2009, 07:08 PM
I cry on the inside.

18-08-2009, 07:28 PM
I bought a load of these a while back, now I can paint them.

18-08-2009, 07:34 PM
I've a really nice one (sniper) - can't decide on colours though, but have an idea for the base

18-08-2009, 07:46 PM
just ordered mine this morning - nearlt went for sniper but picked a coupleof marines - scott's death krops dude inspired me

18-08-2009, 10:18 PM
Very cool prizes! Gotta see about finding something for this one.

19-08-2009, 10:06 AM
yea i really like the prizes too :) very cool and gives a nice twist to things. In some respects i prefer prizes like this, gives a more unique feel to a competition. Shame i don't have any of their models, maybe next time for me :)

19-08-2009, 02:01 PM
Really gutted I'm not going to be able to enter as I was really looking forward to this one and had a nice model out of the box and getting built (yes it left the box!)
Hopefully another one next year?

Can you convert the miniature, or does it have to be their standard version of the miniature with any othre base/ props we want to add?

19-08-2009, 07:55 PM
you may convert it but it must still be inherently urban mammoth so keep conversions subtle (so no adding great big forgeworld parts on it!!) you do so at your own risk and i cannot be held accountable for any disqualification (well i can as it will prbably be me that does it but hey you get the drift!)

25-08-2009, 06:42 AM
Just so I am completely clear on this because there is different set of rules for the following 2 points in another thread called, "Upcoming Painting Contests".

1) Is judging done by John Robertson of UM like the other post says, or is it actually going to be open voting?

2) The other post says September 6 is the deadline but this one says that it's the 15th.

Thanks in advance for the clarification.

25-08-2009, 06:12 PM
@Chris, my apologies for the confusion , the upcoming contests are always guidlines and are subject to change. I should have clarified this .
the deadline is 15th september or 18th spetember for wamp supporters. as for judging it isnt finalised yet - urban mammoth will probably be involved in some form. i will let you know on that as soon as i can

26-08-2009, 05:50 AM
I really appreciate the speedy reply.

I figured that the official thread would supercede the generic "upcoming contests" thread, but I wanted to be sure.

Thanks again!

26-08-2009, 10:20 AM
no problem Chris, got anything nice planned?

27-08-2009, 07:18 AM
I hope it's considered nice.

I've had the fig ever since I-Kore owned the line, but have never had the occasion to paint it up yet.

I started it this past week though, and she is looking really nice, so I'm crossing my fingers for a top 3 placement. Definately love the idea of those medals instead of more figs to add to my stack of 3000 unpainted ones, lol. But, to each his own...

27-08-2009, 08:22 AM
hmmm... it's just a technial matter but are there any special requirements about pictures?
I mean resolution/size/whatever?
or just there must be a single picture and that's it? :)

27-08-2009, 10:53 AM
as it stands (until tux finds out i fiddle with em!) the pics must be 800 wide by 5000 height max (pixels) and must be one submission so photos of multiple angles must be montages

28-08-2009, 10:03 PM
Are the i-Kore figs valid as I have a VASA that is a mix of both iKore and Urban Mammoth.

28-08-2009, 10:12 PM
I don't think I have any i-Kore/VASA/UM figures... which is unusual since I like getting figures from all kinds of different companies just to have a variety. Of course I haven't bought any new minis lately due to needing other things more, like food, housing, utilities.. that kinds of things. Darn it.

28-08-2009, 10:17 PM
Are the i-Kore figs valid as I have a VASA that is a mix of both iKore and Urban Mammoth.

That would be my question as well. I was going to paint a Viridian figure for this contest that UM no longer produces as it came from their I-Kore days.

31-08-2009, 03:55 PM
An UW Painting Contest, great, i´m not the best painter.
But hey, so i can make my Commander Unit for my Metro Army ^^

31-08-2009, 07:16 PM
the figures must be one that has been produced by urban mammoth. Ideally we would prefer current ranges as the contest is also about selling minis but if its all you have then its acceptable

31-08-2009, 07:40 PM
Hope that the Album is the right where if´post my Major and its ok taht he is on a showbase, i just want him as a play miniatur but alone it seems broring so i build this showbase.

01-09-2009, 09:26 AM
heres the link to the album:

01-09-2009, 02:01 PM
DL - I've added the details for the comp on the SI FB group - damn that's a lot of letters!

01-09-2009, 02:05 PM
LMAO, TY btw !

03-09-2009, 08:16 PM
Hmm, isn't it about time the UM comp was on the home page replacing the old FP comp :?

03-09-2009, 08:49 PM
we ran out of herring for the penguin so he's a little lethargic right now, plus morgan freeman keeps talking about him

09-09-2009, 11:12 AM
starting my entry now be afraid - VERY AFRAID!!

09-09-2009, 11:43 AM
I finished mine - more less... I just have to try get decent photos

09-09-2009, 12:39 PM
I finished mine - more less... I just have to try get decent photos

my least favourite bit!!

09-09-2009, 01:27 PM
hahaha, exactly!

09-09-2009, 10:45 PM
Well mine's in but the photos don't seem to be transferring very well.

09-09-2009, 11:31 PM
Well mines coming on (although it will be 'late' again!) - not sure I've picked the right colour for her uniform though (ho hum)

10-09-2009, 12:31 PM
4 entries so far - nice and different too.
just getting onto the fun bit on mine - the weathering which is going to be super heavy

10-09-2009, 03:40 PM
Very nice demi :)

I love the sewer base

10-09-2009, 05:04 PM

10-09-2009, 06:40 PM
If I can get better photos can I am I allowed to change them if it's before the comp closes. And if yes, how do I do it as I see no edit facility :?

10-09-2009, 07:48 PM
just add another submission and ill delete the old one

11-09-2009, 03:23 PM
My submission is in, the photos are rubbish. Anyone know why all my photos are speckly at the moment? Any tips on getting rid of that? (I mean stopping it happening not photoshopping them away)

11-09-2009, 09:48 PM
Here's a new montage, not sure if it's better than before. If you think it is I'll put it in the album.

11-09-2009, 10:05 PM
you need more sources of light to get better photos and eliminate shadows :)
do you have a photo-tent?

11-09-2009, 10:07 PM
photo tent? me? :ROFL

Guess I'll have to hope the sun is shining tomorrow

12-09-2009, 08:32 AM
you can purchase it or do it yourself actually - it really helps in getting fine photos :)

12-09-2009, 10:20 AM
waghorns only just realised his camera doesnt need a film - he spenbt several hours trying to feed one into its memory slot!

12-09-2009, 01:11 PM

12-09-2009, 01:21 PM
well trying to get mine done today - repainted half of it twice and still not happy with other areas

12-09-2009, 01:23 PM
Keep going :)

I repainted a fair bit of mine, dont worry about it!

12-09-2009, 01:24 PM
im rushing it a little as i have one eye on my gd entries!

12-09-2009, 01:27 PM
I got mine done in about a day so it should be fine.. :)

I made all the corrections you suggested about the tau guy btw.. he looks much better now. I'm either going to mount him on a large flat circular black plinth( like the ones eavy metal use) or an inch square one. It depends which looks best with celeborn/tau guy. I will post a vote :P

All my gd entries are done to an enterable standard now :P

12-09-2009, 01:36 PM
i like that tau mate look forward to seeing the improved version. not sure i will have one eetry for GD!

12-09-2009, 02:24 PM

pins just ripped out the side f his leg - ime to get the greenstuff out!

12-09-2009, 04:49 PM

12-09-2009, 06:29 PM
he who laughs last Alex

12-09-2009, 09:01 PM
Another attempt at photos. Please pick the best and repalce in album DL.

13-09-2009, 12:54 AM
Wag those photos are MUCH better, the previous ones really didn't do justice to your paint job.

14-09-2009, 09:11 PM
Deadline is tomorrow 5pm gmt for entries UNLESS your a wamp supporter

14-09-2009, 11:36 PM
Think mine will be ready 4:55 on Thursday (again!)

15-09-2009, 05:24 AM
I can't believe it...I actually finished one on time :D

Anyway, tons of fun to paint.

15-09-2009, 06:28 AM
Just got min in under the deadline. Well for me atl east. Being on the US East Coast means I had to get him done tonight. Sadly his custom scenic base just isn't going to get finished in time, damn glue and Spackle taking too long to dry, and lack of planning didn't help either.

15-09-2009, 07:40 AM
love it thaht there are so many different miniatures

15-09-2009, 08:05 AM
pics are better indeed BUT with photo-tent you'd achieve much better result :)

15-09-2009, 03:12 PM
less than 3 hours to go folks

15-09-2009, 06:20 PM
DEADLINE HAS PASSED - No more entries unless your a wamp supporter - in which case you have until 5pm gmt on Friday

15-09-2009, 08:39 PM
well i've officially given up with my entry - its all finished but im sick to death of this camera - its taken everything not to smash it to peices (i really am not joking here) tons of pictures all different settings and they come out ****e. dunno why but landscapes and stuff are fine yet cant take pictures of minis so im officially stopping taking pictures of minis

15-09-2009, 09:31 PM
that's sad news :(
any chance to see even weak pics of your project? even not as the entry?

16-09-2009, 08:47 AM
ok well i've added it anyway :
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z93/darklordminiatures/ViridianMarine.jpg (http://s188.photobucket.com/albums/z93/darklordminiatures/?action=view&current=ViridianMarine.jpg)

16-09-2009, 09:32 AM
that pic ain't that bad imo :) it seems to be a bit blurry but that's just it :)
I really like the model - dirty and rusty -> my style :D

16-09-2009, 10:27 AM
cheers yeah the problem is a lack of sharpness with my pics - hopefully a new camera will help!!

17-09-2009, 07:01 PM
:woohoo: Managed to use 'gimp' for the first time (cheers Hinton) - still crap photo's though!

Anyway, better late than never - a Viridian Sniper Veteran

17-09-2009, 07:47 PM

17-09-2009, 08:20 PM
I have a large box full of Ilyad stuff - mainly the common sorts, what's he after?

17-09-2009, 08:42 PM
dunno just anything - ill pm you his addy

17-09-2009, 09:11 PM
cheers :D

18-09-2009, 07:38 PM

we have 15 entries vying for 3 medals - all of them great, i predict some tight voting

Voting will open tomorrow morning

18-09-2009, 08:48 PM
15, that's the second best turnout I think. Well done people!
