The Legions are coming, The Legions are coming!!

Yes folks those awesome chaps at Maelstrom games have once more unleashed their Banelegions and Banebeasts upon Wamp and man is it a strong showing this year!
Last years inaugural event was brilliant but this years takes things to a whole new level. not only have Maelstrom been releasing their creations at an ever increasing rate but they are giving us our biggest ever prize list for a Wamp Special.

So I am sure you are all eager to hear the details now your salivating at the thought of getting your hands on some miniature goodness.

The Contest:
The contest is open to and miniature from the Banelegions or Banebeast ranges. Your entries can be a single figure, diorama, unit, whatever you fancy as long as they are Maelstrom minis. You can even sculpt/convert your entry as long as its inherently a Maelstrom miniature (they even have their spanking new bitz service you can use!)

The deadline for entries will be 4pm Friday 24th August 2012

Supporters deadline will be 4pm Friday 31st August 2012

Judging:
This will be carried out by Maelstrom staff as well as their studio painters. The Maelstrom painters are top drawer so you really need to impress them!

The Rules:
(please read them, its amazing how many dont!!)
A few rules:

You must be a Wamp Member to participate. Membership is free and you may register here. (http://www.wamp-forum.com/VB4/register.php)
You may enter as many times as you like but each entry may only submit one photograph so if you need more angles it MUST be a montage.
Images must be no larger than 1000 pixels wide by 2500 pixels high. (It is your responsibility to check this).
any additional photographs of that entry will be removed.
All entries must be new work. (New work is defined as any entry not previously displayed on-line in a completed state (You MAY enter pieces which have been shown as a Work In Progress (WIP)).
You give Wamp and Maelstrom Games permission to use your pictures for publicity (but you do retain ownership).
You may post pictures of WIP or final shots both here and elsewhere.
Judging will be decided by Maelstrom Games.
Submissions must be posted to the contest gallery (http://www.wamp-forum.com/gallery) You must make sure you select the correct contest option in the contest select box either during upload (if using the basic uploader) or via edit pictures after upload
Prizes are awarded for your own personal use. They must not be sold on. Any winner found to be doing so will immediately forfeit any further prize due and will be banned from future Wamp contests. This rule is in place to protect Maelstrom Games own sales.
Maelstrom games commision painters are free to enter the contest but must do so with their own personal work. Miniatures commissioned by Maelstrom are not eligible

Prizes:

The bit you have all been waiting for! Here we go:

1st Prize:

One of EVERY new release for 1 YEAR!! This includes Banelegions AND Banebeasts! Yes thats right, EVERY miniature Maelstrom Games releases from the prize awarded until 12 MONTHS LATER!! Thats ALL THE MONSTERS, ALL THE TROOPERS AND ALL THE SINGLE FIGURES!!!! (Based upon the previous 12 months release schedule thats over 1,000 in miniatures!!) Maelstrom release at least 1 miniature per month and often 3 or 4!
The winning entry will also feature on the cover of Portal Magazine

2nd Prize:

Your choice of 1 miniature from that months new releases - FOR A YEAR! (so every month for a year you can pick one of their new releases from that month.

3rd Prize:

and as if that wasn't enough!!!.........

Spot Prizes

There will be 10 x 10 Banelegions/Banebeast (redeemable against either range) Vouchers awarded to entries that well frankly, Maelstrom think are cool!! These might be for entries that just missed out on one of the main prizes, maybe for the best paintjob on a certain mini or maybe just a clever conversion, it could be anything that catches the judges eye!

WAMP2012

All entries are also eligible for any prizes for Best Banelegion or Banebeast at WAMP2012 so you are free to enter the same piece both in this contest and at WAMP2012. This event will be held at Maelstrom games, Mansfield on Saturday 11th August 2012. See the WAMP2012 (http://www.wamp-forum.com/VB4/forumdisplay.php?f=171)thread for more details

Woah!!

This is gonna be a huuuuge competition! I expect loads of entries from all sorts of amazing international painters in this one.

Well done for sorting this out, Brett. And a big thanks to Maelstrom for the sponsorship of course.

I'm gonna start scheming something badass, asap! :D

Random question- last year, the prize was the same for those that entered in the Wamp 2011 event, I take it they're not offering such an amazing price twice?

No the WAMP2012 element will be a trophy and 50 Store credit. Those are awarded in addition to any prizes won in the online element

worth it mate, fun to paint and fantastic quality

Are they? The reason I didn't order at the time was in a couple of photos the casting quality didn't look very good, though I've only heard good things on that front from them..

Darklord
08-06-2012, 06:30 PM
yeah excellent, I have reviewed two of their pieces (and painted one) and found the standard high. I think now they are all cast in house too so they can keep an even closer eye on the QA

Both my experiences were with the Banebeasts but I can't see why the Banelegions would be any different. They spend a lot of money getting them to production

Wow... just... wow.

This sums it up perfectly. I had to come back to this thread to make sure I wasn't imagining it!

I'm a little confused by the Maelstrom painter's rules though. I'm guessing that even though their own painters can enter, the ones doing so wont be judging it?

I really don't fancy anyone's chances if going up against Mr Komets for example... especially if he's judging too. :P

Aaarghhhh! My poor orky brain is going round in circles wiv da plan for this one...

There's so many cool minis to choose from, but I find the Maelstrom site quite clunky to use, so this could take a lot of sifting to find the right minis for da plan.

Also for the Non-UK peeps I just found a coupon on Dakka for 20% off.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/454474.page

Hi there,

Here at Maelstrom Games (www.maelstromgames.co.uk (http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/)) we've missed our Australian, Canadian, New Zealand, American and other rest of the world customers since Games Workshop restricted our sales of their products to the EU only; but Maelstrom Games haven't forgotten about you all, and we'd like to remind you that it's not as small a world as all that and that we don't just sell Games Workshop products. There's a whole industry of wargaming that isn't Warhammer, or 40K, nor indeed should you just buy Citadel paints: and thus, we've decided to offer you 20% off the UK recommended retail price for pretty much everything on our website (apart from GW, of course) from now until the 18th of June! How awesome is that!

YOUR 20% SMALL WORLD VOUCHER
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your 20% off UK RRP discount voucher ends on Monday the 18th of June at midnight (GMT), and you really do have some superb miniatures to spend your hard-earned on!

The voucher will work on all the items within our webstore, but:

- not on any Flames of War items
- not on any Gale Force Nine items
- not on any Kingdom Death items
- not on any Studio McVey items
- not on any Too Fat Lardies items
- not on any Games Workshop items
- and additionally, not on anything within our eBay store.

IMPORTANT: You must note, too, that this voucher will ONLY work for those customers with DELIVERY addresses within AUSTRALIA, CANADA, JAPAN, NEW ZEALAND, SINGAPORE, THAILAND and the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

The voucher will work on pre-orders and, crucially, you'll still earn Moneyback - although tiered discounts are disabled when using a voucher of course.

Your voucher code is: SMALL-WORLD

To use this voucher simply register on the webstore, www.maelstromgames.co.uk (if you haven't already), copy and paste the code into the Voucher field in your basket when you have selected the items you want, press 'REDEEM', and the webstore will do the rest. You are not limited to one purchase and, indeed, we would ask you to recommend us to your friends with this voucher!

Remember though that this voucher is intended for the webstore only - it does not apply to any of our auctions or shop inventory items on eBay.

Happy Ordering!

Can anyone point me towards any Banelords/beast that have loads of nice smooth bits on them? I find the Maelstrom site to be really clunky to preview minis. The thumbnails are pretty useless really and i've been scouring for ages but seem to be getting nowhere as there are loads of them to flick through, and they are mostly pretty rough minis (texture, not sculpt quality that is!). :P

Any help would be much appreciated, especially if you know of a stockist that has a more functional shopping experience with nice thumbnails/listings and what not. Cheers! :)

Thanks Cap'n. The blog helped loads... as I found that CMON stock many of them, and has a better product selection page. I'll of course be ordering from Maelstrom still though, but at least I can browse a bit better on CMON.

I've always kinda liked that one actually too. I'm not sure if she will fit into my grand scheme, but it's early days and things may change yet. :)

Yeah, there's some stuff out of stock now - We started selling to retailers a month or so before Salute and after (a very successful) Salute the USA (and Germany plus a few in Spain, France etc so check them out also) went a bit mad for the range as we had several retailers and 3 distributors pick it up all in the space of a couple of weeks (and make multiple orders) - basically the stock we built up has taken a battering but every trade order has been fulfilled as of last week and this coming week will see us build up our own stock again. Don't worry if something shows as 0 stock on our site as during busy periods we will cast enough to fulfil back orders and stick one or two in stock so we can cast more of other stuff we need for orders. (and then return to the line later and fill the stock levels up)

Basically, now we cast in-house we have far more control over our own stock than we ever have. There's been a short delay over the past month but we're set to fulfill all back orders this week and add to stock levels.

More than that though, the order was sent out by the cheapest 2nd class shipping (I ticked the 1st class recorded option), the order was picked wrong, and the box was insufficiently packed out too, resulting in damage.

If it's a Shaaroc or Euryalia we're on the case (only minis with a wait of two weeks) - Euryalia is just insanely popular at the mo with our own customers and retailers alike (caused a Q) and Shaaroc has had a mould re-cut - both lines will go into positive stock today.

As a little snippet for you all today sulpts from JAG, Allan C (3 sculpts from Allan!) and Benoit Cosse will be on the way to us - They should arrive Monday which will be a belting start to the week for us! (might be a while till they see public viewing, but something to look forward too!)

Can I ask about the release schedule, its full every month -is it a case of you have a set amount to get out by a certain time or just there's a ton of ideas and they come out whenever?

Was speaking to Mr Komets yesterday - he's tempted to enter if he can find time

We have a full release schedule for the next 12 months all planned and ready :-D Full units are starting to appear now and we're fleshing out some older minis (minos, trolls) into full units also (was always the plan, just takes time).

Aye, I know Ben has an idea or two up his sleeve, I believe Stephane/Xur may well be entering as I arranged for a couple of big guys to arrive at his home recently ;-)

Wait a minute... so one of the most talented and highly regarded painters in the entire universe ever ever ever, who also happens to be an employee of the company sponsoring the comp has one or two ideas for entries up his sleeve?

Conflict of interests much? :P

I'l just cross my fingers and hope that the people judging it are jealous of Ben's dashingly handsome looks, amazing conversational prowess, and world-leading painting skills, and have decided this is a good opportunity for rather loud and public "Ner nerrr ner ner nerrr." :D

It's ok though, I like starting with a good high bar. I always find the journey for us aspiring painters is much more rewarding when motivated by such an insanely high benchmark.

So, in the spirit of the competition... if you're reading this, Ben - Yer goin' daahn! ('cos somebody here had to grow a pair and say it to him. :P)

Iain- as you haven't put up a final pic of him online, there's nothing stopping you at all. In fact, I think it says somewhere that entries entered into WAMP2012 are valid for the online comp.

On a related note, my model was put up in the WAMP 2012 photos thread- I'm hoping that doesn't count me out as I personally haven't posted a finished picture of it online! Secondly, massive thanks to Orki for the bits. They arrived at the weekend, so I now need to replace the hanging head on it anyway, making it unfinished once again!

In addition we're also be choosing the winners of our spot prizes and I'll be giving some feedback from us on each and every entry.
